What is an
acupuncture facelift?
Acupuncture
Facelift, also known as Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation, has
a lengthy history in traditional Chinese Medicine. It
incorporates careful placement of needles to lift the face
and combines classical acupuncture with (click on this link
for more information) rejuvance
facial massage to
get the best possible results in revitalizing and awakening
the natural energy of the body to lift and firm the
face.Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture involves the insertion
of hair-thin needles into particular areas of the face,
ears, neck, hands, trunk, and legs along channels or
meridians of energy called qi. Specific points are chosen to
manipulate the movement of qi in the body according to the
individual's needs.
Many
meridians either begin or end on the face while some have
internal branches that go to the face. Therefore, treatments
specifically affect the face while simultaneously treating
the underlying factors that contribute to the ageing
process.
For
thousands of years, the Chinese have known that beauty comes
from the inside. At least as early as the Sung Dynasty
(960AD-1270AD) Acupuncture rejuvenation practices were
employed for the Empress and the Emperor's concubines. The
Chinese discovered and utilised ways to change the energy
flow within the body to initiate the healing process for
rejuvenation.
Though
Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture can sometimes be referred
to as an Acupuncture Facelift, it is more than a cosmetic
procedure. It is a rejuvenation and revitalisation process
designed to help the whole body look and feel
younger.

Will it
work for me?
George
Dellar MBRCP Lic.ac MRSS(T) DS Principal of The
Wiltshire Acupuncture practice,
says 'after a series of
12 treatments (twice a week for six weeks, 6 acupuncture and
6 rejuvance
facial massage treatments),
skin becomes more delicate and fair, and there are fewer
wrinkles. The treatments also results in an erasing of fine
lines and a reduction of deeper lines, less sagginess, a
lifting of droopy eyelids, and a clearing or reduction of
age spots. And, as an added bonus, there is an overall
rejuvenation that is not confined to your face.
Cosmetic acupuncture is a
good alternative for clients who don't want the side effects
associated with a surgical facelift'
How does
acupuncture work to eliminate facial lines and
wrinkles?
The
treatments consists of stimulating certain reflex points on
the body, neck and face that, in turn, tonify and energize
the skin's underlying tissue. The circulation is also
enhanced to areas of the face which will give a vibrant,
healthy appearance
What causes
wrinkles?
There
are many known factors which contribute to wrinkling It is a
combination of factors which determine the exact degree and
kind of wrinkling each individual will experience. Poor
nutrition, mental and emotional stress, age glandular
disturbance, side effects from medication, improper use of
cosmetics and skin care products, over exposure to the sun
and wind, heredity, chemical and dirt in the air, fatigue
and skin damage all contribute to the formation of
wrinkles.
What we
express or repress shows in our face, all the emotions,
stress, anxiety, anger, sadness, worry and even joy create
lines and tensions in our face.
What is the
difference between an acupuncture face lift program and a
surgical face lift?
The
surgical approach is largely a structural approach, which
tightens the skin and underlying facial tissue, surgery
involves local anaesthetic, incisions, and a lengthy
recovery process. Through the acupuncture and rejuvance
method, the skin's underlying tissues are tonified and
energized so they naturally tighten themselves. Also,
through the use of facial treatments and manipulations,
various facial conditions can be improved.
What
advantages does an acupuncture face lift have over a
surgical face lift?
There
are no surgical risks, no danger of infection, no recovery
period, it is painless less expensive and there is no time
spent in hospital. There is no time off work, it is a safe
alternative for those who cannot have a surgical lift and it
will prevent as well as correct wrinkles.
What are the
disadvantages of an acupuncture face
lift?
Acupuncture
face lifts do not work for everybody, acupuncture face lifts
do not produce as dramatic a change as surgical lifts.
Acupuncture face lifts tend to reduce or diminish wrinkles
and not completely eliminate them. Acupuncture face lifts
are not effective on severely damaged skin.
Do
acupuncture face lift treatments hurt at
all?
There is
sometimes mild discomfort with the needling and none with
the facial massage aspect and often patients fall asleep
while receiving their treatments.
How long
does it take to receive a
treatment?
Each
visit will require 45 minutes for both the Acupuncture
treatments and the facial rejuvance massages. We recommend
that the treatments alternate, first with an acupuncture
treatment then the relaxing rejuvance massage.
How many
treatments are required?
Generally
we recommend a series of 12 treatments, 6 acupuncture
treatments and 6 facial rejuvance treatments over a 4 to 6
week period. The number of treatments will depend on skin
type, age and general condition and at the initial
consultation the number of treatments will be estimated.
Improvements are subtle and occur over time. Skin will
become more lustrous, healthy, soft, and fine lines will
begin to fade.
Can I just
have a few treatments and see how I get
on?
Our
experience indicates that treatments have a cumulative
effect, so it is better to complete the course of
treatments.
